1. C5 - International envelope size, also called ISO-C5, measuring 162 x 229 mm, or 6.4 x 9.1 inches.

2. Cap height - The distance from the top of the uppercase letters to the baseline in a typeface or font. This is used to measure the type size and in some cases may be the same as the height of the ascenders.

3. Carrier Sheet - The sheet of paper that holds labels for printing. The labels must then be peeled off the carrier sheet for use.

4. Cartridge - The physical case which holds the ink in the printer. Some cartridges also include the print head attached.

5. Centered - Literarily text or images placed in the center of the page and thus equidistant from the extreme left and right margins.

6. Character code - A computer code that represents a particular character or symbol that has meaning attached to it. Most current operating systems use 8-bit character codes, some of which represent commands to the computer, and most of which represent the AlphaNumeric symbols of the main Western Languages. Other languages that use extended or alternate writing systems, such as Russian, Greek, Asian languages, and so on, use 16 bits and are so called Double Byte charater sets. See also Character Encoding.

7. Character encoding, character mapping - A table used in an operating system or font to map the character codes to the glyphs used in a font. Most character encoding uses an 8-bit system allowing a maximum of 256 character codes. Extended or non-AlphaNumeric languages often use 16-bit or Double Byte encoding.

Also, Character Maps or not necessarily cross platform compatible. For example, the Macintosh and Windows operating systems use difering character maps. However, Type 1 fonts do contain the glyphs necessary for both these mappings and so work in both Macintosh and Windows systems and others.

8. Character Height - The height of the printed upper case letter, defined in points where one point is .014 inch.

9. Character Per Inch - CPI - The number of characters that will print within one horizontal inch. Also called Pitch, where 10 pitch = 10 characters per inch. This is only accurate with fixed pitch fonts where the characters are of equal proportion.

10. Character Per Line - CPL - The number of characters that will fit on a single horizontal line.

11. Characters - Letters or symbols used in communication.

12. Characters Per Second - CPS - The printing speed of a printer, specifically, the number of characters the printer can print per second.

13. CMY - The acronym for the three subtractive colour primaries used in the three color printing process, Cyan (blue), Magenta (red), and Yellow.

14. CMYK - The four color printing process, Cyan Magenta Yellow Black, used in conventional color printing and color inkjet printing. By overlaying these four colors a vast range of colors can be produced.

15. Color - The visual sensation experienced by the brain caused by light of varying frequencies stimulating the retina of the eye either by direct light, eg., computer monitor, or reflected light, eg, a picture in a book.
