1. Pantone - A precise color match system printed by the Pantone Company used by the ink industry as the standard for research and manufacturing.
2. Parallel Interface - An interface that allows parallel transmission of data between devices. Thus multiple pieces of information can be exchanges simultansously rather than piece by piece.
3. Parentheses - Round brackets (), see Brackets for more infoamtion about brackets in general.
4. Parity - A technique for detecting errors in data sent to between devices.
5. Peripheral - Any ancillary device connected to a computer or system, Examples are printers, modems, monitors, and such like.
6. Pica - A measurement unit equaling 0.166 inches or 12 points. In PostScript however, a pica is exactly 1/6th of an inch.
7. Piezo Inkjet - A process whereby small electric pulses from piezoelectric crystals are used to force the ink through the nozzles.
8. Pigment - A solid particulate colorant used in inks. Being insoluble pigments produce better quality images in most situations and also provide better protection against fading.
9. Pigment Inks - Inks that use pigments as the colorant rather than dyes and arguably producing prints that are blacker and richer in color and also have better color retention. However, pigment inks do have the tendency to clog nozzles, especially on long print runs.
10. Pitch - The number of printed characters per horizontal inch and applies only to fixed-spaced fonts.
11. Pixel - PICture Element - The smallest component a digitised image which usually directly relates to the small points of light that make up an image the computer monitor.
12. Point - A unit of measurement in typography where 1 inch equals 72 points.
13. Point size - The most common method of measuring type, being the distance from the top of the highest ascender to the bottom of the lowest descender in points.
14. PostScript - PS - A specific page-description language developed by Adobe for describing the appearance of images and text on the printed page and used by high end graphics applications. PostScript is used by most laser printers and some high-end inkjets printers.
15. PPM - Acronym for Pages Per Minute, or how many pages a printer can print per minute.
