1. Raised cap - The opposite of Drop Cap, Raised cap is where the first letter of a paragraph is capitalized in large point size and aligned with the baseline of the first line of text.

2. Random Access Memory - RAM - Memory used by electronic devices to store information temporarily. Such information is lost when power is withdrawn.

3. Raster Graphics - Images that are comprised of many individual dots, each of which have a value that defines it's specific color, size and place within the complete image. These are also known as Bitmap images or BMP.

4. Raster Image Processing - RIP - A hardware or software application that converts object-oriented or vector graphics and fonts into raster images or fonts for use by a printer.

5. Remanufacturered Cartridge - A used inkjet cartridge that is taken apart, cleaned, worn parts replaced, reassembled, filled and tested for resale. Hence, re-manufactured.

6. Remote Printer - A printer attached to a remote device and accessable via a network using TCP/IP access. In this was, one printer may service many users thus reducing hardware costs.

7. Rendering - The process of converting electronic information into visible images, either on screen or paper.

8. Resevoir - The receptacle that contains the ink in an inkjet system.

9. Resolution - In technical terms, the number of individual dots per inch, DPI, stored and used to re-create the image. In layman's terms, the sharpness or fineness of the image.

10. Reverse - A technique of reversing the text color resulting in light, usually white, text on a dark, usually black, background. This is often used to emphasize a section of text but should be used with caution as it can reduce legibility, particularly with small type.

11. RGB - The primary colours in visible light, Red, Green and Blue, which, when added together in equal amounts, produces white.

12. Roman - A common term for the upright or normal version of a font, as distinct from the italic or oblique versions.
